Give.
Conservation: The work being done to protect the Diablotin is being done by a small group of dedicated conservation organizations that rely on donations by individuals and small grants. Give whatever you can to keep the momentum moving forward.
Humanitarian: Start with our list of humanitarian groups and see if there are needs you can fill to support their work. Sometimes money helps and sometimes it does not. The groups that work closely with local Haitian's know and will ask for what they need. Look around in your own community and see how you can contribute to intake ecosystems and preserving wild places that are good for people and the planet.
Volunteer.
There is much work ahead of us. Both conservation and humanitarian efforts need your help. Look around and see where you can bring your unique skills to address new solutions.
Speak.
There are many active campaigns that speak to lawmakers about. Advocate for healthy intake ecosystems for animals, people and the planet. Whether it is habitat protection or human rights issues in your community everything is connected in a healthy global ecosystem. Let your voice be heard and let your lawmakers know how you feel.
Learn.
John Muir once wrote, "When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the universe." Take some time and read more about this spectacular bird. Understand why it needs to feed at sea and nest up at high altitude in the Caribbean. Comprehend the amazing migration the petrel embarks on. Appreciate the struggles that this species negotiates daily.
Read about the history of Haiti. It is humbling, heartbreaking, and also inspiring. The more we know the more compassionate we can be and the more wise we can be in offering our own skills. Learn about what your ecosystem needs to be healthy. Team up with people who are already working on solutions. Document the work. Share it with the world so that we can all learn.
Dream.
As life struggles to survive, dream of ways we can live in harmony with each other and the natural world around us. We are one beautiful part of great balance of living things. Find a quiet place and take a minute to dream about the amazing world we can be a part of and help create. Believe that in the future, for the Diablotin, for the Boucan Chat family, and for every place that humans and animals meet. Remember everything is connected.
